MAJOR CHANGES PROPOSED TO NRHA EUROPEAN NOMINATION PROGRAM
NOMINATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 30
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – March 31, 2010 –The deadline for 2009 European-born foal nominations for the National Reining Horse Association European Nomination Program was originally March 31, 2010. However due to suggested changes to the 2010 program conditions, the deadline has been extended to April 30, 2010.
As of March 30, nearly 450 nominations were received. According to Executive Director Dan Wall, “With the number of nominations received to date, the program is well on its way to our goal of 500. However, we realize these pending changes are a concern of many involved in the program. Therefore in fairness to the entire membership, the Executive Committee decided to extend the deadline pending the discussion and approval of the proposed changes to the 2010 conditions.”
During a meeting earlier this month, NRHA European Affiliates proposed changes in the program conditions that would impact foals born in 2010 and later. The Executive Committee will recommend the proposal to the NRHA Board of Directors during their April meeting. Due to these potential changes, the Executive Committee decided to extend the deadline to April 30.
While breeders are in the process of making the decision to nominate 2009 foals, NRHA hopes they will consider the proposed changes shown below. (Please note that the conditions will not change for 2009 foals. Only foals born in 2010 or later will be considered nominated under the revised nomination conditions.)
WHAT ARE THE PROPOSED CHANGES FOR 2010 FOALS?
After hearing member questions and concerns about the program, NRHA European Affiliates recommend the following:
• To change the structure so that one nomination will not make a horse eligible to enter both the U.S. and European components of the program. This change is proposed as the best solution to ensure the long-term success of both programs.
For example if an owner wants a European-born foal to be eligible to enter the NRHA U.S. Futurity, NRHA U.S. Derby, NRHA European Futurity and NRHA European Derby, he/she will need to:
1). Nominate the horse to NRHA European Nomination Program for 230€
2). Nominate the foal to the U.S. component at a discounted rate. The discounted rate will be discussed and decided by the NRHA Board of Directors at the April 9-10 meeting.
A similar process will apply to horses that are nominated in the U.S. The nominator will need to make the second discounted nomination payment for the horse to be eligible for the NRHA European Futurity and NRHA European Derby.
NOMINATE TODAY!
The NRHA European Futurity is open to all four-year-olds until the 2013 event at which time only horses nominated to the NRHA Nomination Program can enter. The program starts with 2009 European-born foals. The nomination fee for 2009 foals is only 230€ if postmarked by APRIL 30. The fee increases to 1,500€ after APRIL 30.
