The British Equestrian Federation has appointed horse feed manufacturer, Dodson and Horrell as the official supplier of nutrition to Equestrian Team GBR.
The three-year deal includes the supply of horse feed to the teams where required, coordination of the logistics for transporting and locating feed for Team GBR at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and provision of impartial advice on equine nutrition for performance. This advice and support extends beyond the teams to the World Class Programme, with Dodson and Horrell playing a key role in advising developing riders as they progress.
“We are delighted to welcome Dodson and Horrell on board as an official supplier,” comments Will Connell, World Class Performance Director. “The logistics support they can offer to the complex challenge of feeding around 40 competition horses in Kentucky for the World Equestrian Games later this year will be invaluable; it is also vital that our Team and World Class riders have access to impartial advice on equine nutrition, especially with London 2012 just around corner. The Olympic and Paralympic sports are generously supported by UK Sport funding, but his does not extend to the other World Equestrian Games disciplines so the extra support from Dodson and Horrell will be of particular benefit to them.”
“We are delighted to be supporting the British Equestrian Federation and Team GBR as they strive to secure success over the next three years,” comments Bill Chudley, Dodson & Horrell Sales & Marketing Director. “It provides a great opportunity for us to get involved with the teams and the World Class programme, including the developing riders, reinforcing our continued commitment to equestrian disciplines especially as we head into some major events. We look forward to working with all those involved.”
The British Equestrian Teams compete in the Olympic sports of dressage, eventing and showjumping, the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage and the other international sports of driving, endurance, reining and vaulting. Dodson and Horrell will join a number of official suppliers who generously support these teams at major events and throughout the year. These currently include, Griffin Nuumed, Mears Country Jackets, Natural Animal Feeds, Patey Hats, Thermatex, Toggi and Travel Places.
The World Class Programme underpins Team GBR in the sports of dressage, eventing, show jumping and para-equestrian dressage; it comprises the Performance and Development Programmes plus the Equine Pathway. The aim of the Programme is to have in place a sustainable system that can deliver more medals on the international stage now and in the future, it has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, through Exchequer and National Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.

British Reining Clinic
As a result of some contribution from British Reining to the March Clinic the format will now slightly change and the clinic will focus on FEI competition. If you have ever wondered what you have to do to take part in an FEI class now is your chance to find out!
The FEI class at the British Reining Spring Show will be running pattern 6 and so the March Garden of England Show will put this pattern on for the Rookie, Open and Non Pro Classes.
You can run the pattern and on the Sunday the FEI Judge Alain Kronshagen will hold the usual critiquing session with each rider to determine where points were lost and gained, and give pointers in how to improve the score.
After that there will be a talk on how to present for an FEI class and a practice on how to trot your horse up. Please bring all documentation with you, such as passport and vaccination certificates. There will be an FEI vet there to check your paperwork and make sure that it is all in order. Even if you have no intention of competing in April this will be an invaluable check and you will learn what you should have in your hand at such events.
It will be a really interesting day, even of you have no desire to take part in FEI competition as it will reveal some of the mysteries behind the system. Anyone can take part in the class in April and you may wish to, just so you can ´tick that box!¡ , It is great opportunity for anyone with aspirations to gain a team place, either Junior or Senior. It is also invaluable for anyone who may wish to take an FEI stewards course or come along as a groom!
BR will be funding each member £30 towards to the cost of the clinic so the price will be £90 if you have prepaid for the clinic but do not wish to do a CRI day then we will refund you or if you are staying in the course you will receive a rebate for the difference! Please be sure to let us know by email if you are or are not still intending to take part in the clinic.
There has been a slight amendment to the schedule that was originally published.
1) There will be a Novice Horse Class Pattern 9
2) Open Pattern changed to Pattern 6
3) Non pro Pattern changed to Pattern 6
An amended Schedule is available on the website www.gardenofenglandcircuit.co.uk

Anti-doping Education Days
BEF EQUINE AND HUMAN ANTI DOPING EDUCATION DAYS
With the introduction of the new FEI Equine Anti Doping and Medication Control rules just around the corner (05 April 2010), the BEF World Class Programme and discipline Member Bodies will be hosting a number of regional education days for riders and owners.
The days, which are free of charge to attend and open to riders in all FEI disciplines who compete or intend to compete in FEI competition, will be invaluable in helping riders to understand what has changed and why. It is essential that riders attend these days as the education will assist riders in making sense of the new Equine Prohibited List, the new rules surrounding stewarding and security at events and medication log books. Equine anti doping and medication control is a hot topic throughout the world and it is absolutely vital that all riders fully understand the rules and the implications of falling foul of the rules, which could result in a 2 year ban from the sport.
Human drug testing will be ramped up in the lead up to London 2012, so the education days will also cover human anti doping issues with input from UK Anti Doping (UKAD) and BEF Chief Medical Officer, Dr Peter Whitehead. The rules affect all riders at all affiliated levels and with some “everyday” substances appearing on the Human Prohibited List, it is important that riders are familiar with what can and can’t be used. Details about how to go about applying for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) or making a Declaration of Use (DoU) for riders that require a prohibited substance due to a medical condition will form an important part of the human anti doping session.
The dates and venues for the six days are:
Monday 22 March 2010, 0930 – 1630hrs Blackwell Grange Hotel, Blackwell Grange, Darlington, Yorkshire, DL3 8QH
Tuesday 23 March 2010, 0930 - 1630hrs Ingliston Country Club and Equestrian Centre, Old Greenock Road, Bishopton, Glasgow, Scotland, PA7 5PA
